The Northern Michigan Opioid Response Consortium and the Michigan Center for Rural Health are proud to present the 2025 Rural Recovery Hero Award to Madeleine McConnell.

Madeleine McConnell, the 2025 Recovery Hero of the Year, was honored at the Rural Michigan Opioid and Substance Use Summit, hosted by NMORC and MCRH on July 17, 2025, at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, MI. This annual summit brings together professionals and advocates focused on addressing substance use disorder in rural Michigan.

She was instrumental in expanding MAT services, piloting the Family Recovery Care Team, and launching jail-based recovery care. She also led the integration of peer recovery coaches across hospitals, EMS, and law enforcement in seven counties, improving access and continuity of care.

As CEO, Madeleine has strengthened Sunrise Centre through community partnerships, successful reaccreditation, and a new capital campaign. A graduate of the U-M Health Policy Fellowship, she is known for her deep commitment to reducing stigma, uplifting vulnerable populations, and building recovery-friendly communities. Her leadership and vision continue to inspire positive change across rural Michigan’s recovery landscape.
