In 2021, The Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA), established Rural Emergency Hospitals (REHs) as a new Medicare provider and allows REHs to participate in the Medicare program and receive payment for items and services furnished on or after January 1, 2023. REHs are meant to reinforce access to outpatient medical services and reduce health disparities in areas that may not be able to sustain a full-service hospital.
MCRH can provide technical assistance on this new provider type should eligible hospitals in MI consider transitioning to REH status.
