Michigan State University College of Human Medicine’s Communication Manager for Academic Affairs & Admissions, Julia Terhune, discusses the understanding the barriers for recruitment and retention of a rural workforce and how interpersonal reflection can be impactful. She also presents tools to use in interactions to better recruit and retain rural healthcare students and workers.
Michael E. Wooley, J.D., Partner at Varnum LLP, describes the immigration process from a health care organizational perspective. He will also present the process as applied to individual organizations and the process to legally employ foreign physicians, dentists, therapists and allied health care providers in rural health care environments.
Mandi Gingras, Director of Education for 3RNET, will discuss understanding what motivates a candidate and how tailoring your marketing efforts to meet those needs can make all the difference in your recruitment efforts, particularly if you’re located in a rural or underserved community and faced with unique challenges. In this session Mandi will go through strategies for successfully attracting and finding candidates including how to create an effective job ad, making a lasting first impression, developing a sourcing plan, leveraging social media, and incorporating diversity, equity and inclusion in your marketing efforts.
Kara Massa provided valuable insights into the Michigan Center for Rural Health's project on enhancing remote patient monitoring (RPM) in independent rural hospitals. She not only covered the fundamental best practices for RPM in rural settings but also offered a detailed walkthrough of how three independent rural hospitals in Michigan successfully implemented RPM during an 18-month pilot program, sponsored by the Michigan Health Endowment Fund.
