Coordinated Response

The “war on drugs” can be trace back to June 1971. The Campaign, launched by then President Richard Nixon more than 50-years ago, has spanned multiple administrations and led to the creation of the Drug Enforcement Agency. It is estimated that America has spent over a trillion dollars enforcing drug policy. There are many factors that contribute to the drug epidemic in America, and there is no ‘silver bullet’ to end it quickly. But there are prevention, treatment, recovery, and community support efforts that are making a difference across our region! Get involved in a local effort to change the landscape, help those in need and work to prevent new generations from seeking a solution that is counterproductive.

Community Coalitions

NMORC works with 25-counties in northern Lower Michigan to coordinate, advocate and support efforts our partners are making in the areas of Prevention, Treatment and Recovery Support. Click here for member organization listings that provide links to efforts across the region. Please contact us if you know of other resources that should be listed here!

NMORC Committee Work

NMORC supports sharing resources through our committee work which is divided into two categories: Prevention / Workforce and Treatment / Recovery.

Each quarter these groups meet independently the first two months of the quarter, then as a whole in the third month at a hybrid-format Quarterly Meeting (held at Kirtland College, Grayling in March, June, September and December). NMORC helps coordinate efforts, share best practices and provide technical assistance and expert speakers across the year. If you are interested in joining either committee, please

Multiple Efforts, Multiple Pathways

There is so much great work to support prevention, treatment and recovery efforts in our region! From efforts in our schools to provide prevention and coping support to outreach by our first responders to address people affected by overdose to our communities providing opportunities to learn about addiction, engage in reducing stigma so more people seek help, and providing multiple pathways for those in recovery to share and support each other through the journey!
